What happens when an architect designs his own retirement accommodation?
A larch clad, green roofed , super insulated one bedroom stand alone building in his daughters garden, granted planning permission in the curtilage of a listed building in a national park!
Factory building
Our Factory and office building. We converted this from an old farm building, (click the picture to see the before). It contains three units, one for us and two that are sublet.
Our unit, which takes up the majority of the footprint, contains several offices a production area and a large storage unit. We effectively rebuilt the walls and ceilings from insulated timber frames meaning the 6000sq ft building can be locally heated with small electric heaters.

Garden Gazebo
The client couldn't find anything that quite fitted their requirements so asked us to build a waney edge clad gazebo with seating, we even knocked up a table for alfresco dinner parties.
Manufactured in Derbyshire
We are a small company based in the heart of the Peak District, originally set up to convert our recently purchased delipidated farm into a small industrial estate, including a unit for our other business "The Vintage Model Company"
During the process we learnt a lot about timber framing and how a lot of people don't do it correctly, we discovered a good group of joiners and general builders who we kept on after our job was finished.
The original idea was to offer a timber frame building service for new build houses (predominantly self build). We developed a different way of making the walls vapour tight and insulated without relying on vulnerable plastic sheet type vapour barriers.
The reality of that situation was that despite winning lots of jobs, self builders tend to contact the frame manufacturer early in the process so were still waiting on planning permission or finance and having just started the business we were looking for things to build now.
The first job that was available for an immediate start was for a wheelchair accessible wetroom, the house didn't have space to convert an existing room downstairs so the wetroom had to be housed in an extension.
The various conversations that were had on that project led to the development of the Wetpod concept, the realisations that anybody who needs one, doesn't want one they "need" one is key they haven't got time to wait or the inclination to be messing about with teams of people digging footings, building walls, roofs etc. A finished solution needs to be dropped in.
